Interactive Services Detection (UI0Detect) Defaults in Windows 7

Enables user notification of user input for interactive services, which enables access to dialogs created by interactive services when they appear. If this service is stopped, notifications of new interactive service dialogs will no longer function and there might not be access to interactive service dialogs. If this service is disabled, both notifications of and access to new interactive service dialogs will no longer function.

Default Behavior

Interactive Services Detection shows message boxes when it is necessary. In Windows 7 it won't be started if the user doesn't start it. If Interactive Services Detection fails to start, Windows 7 attempts to write the failure details into Event Log. Then Windows 7 startup should proceed and the user should be notified that the UI0Detect service is not running because of the error.

Restore Default Startup Configuration of Interactive Services Detection

1. Run the Command Prompt as an administrator.

2. Copy the command below, paste it into the command window and press ENTER:

sc config UI0Detect start= demand

3. Close the command window and restart the computer.

The UI0Detect service is using the UI0Detect.exe file that is located in the C:\Windows\system32 directory. If the file is removed or corrupted, read this article to restore its original version from Windows 7 installation media.
