Default Behavior

File Information FS MiniFilter is a file system driver. In Windows 7 it is being loaded by Boot Loader before Kernel initialization. If File Information FS MiniFilter fails to start, Windows 7 attempts to write the failure details into Event Log. Then Windows 7 startup should proceed and the user should be notified that the FileInfo service is not running because of the error.

File Information FS MiniFilter is unable to start, if the FltMgr service is stopped or disabled.

If File Information FS MiniFilter is stopped, the Superfetch service fails to start and initialize.

Restore Default Startup Configuration for File Information FS MiniFilter

Before you begin doing this, make sure that all the services on which File Information FS MiniFilter depends are configured by default and function properly. See the list of dependencies above.

1. Run the Command Prompt as an administrator.

2. Copy the commands below, paste them into the command window and press ENTER:

sc config FileInfo start= boot
sc start FileInfo

3. Close the command window and restart the computer.

The FileInfo service is using the fileinfo.sys file that is located in the %WinDir%\system32\drivers folder. If the file is changed, damaged or deleted, you can restore its original version from Windows 7 installation media.
