Windows Media Center Receiver Service (ehRecvr) Defaults in Windows 7
Windows Media Center Service for TV and FM broadcast reception.
The Windows Media Center Receiver Service does not exist in:
- Windows 7 Starter
- Windows 7 Home Basic
- Windows 7 Starter SP1
- Windows 7 Home Basic SP1

Default Behavior
Windows Media Center Receiver Service is a Win32 service. In Windows 7 it won't be started if the user doesn't start it. When the Windows Media Center Receiver Service is started, it is running as NT AUTHORITY\networkService in its own process of ehRecvr.exe. If Windows Media Center Receiver Service fails to load or initialize, Windows 7 startup continues without error messages. The failure details are being written into Event Log.
Dependencies
Windows Media Center Receiver Service is unable to start, if the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service is stopped or disabled.
Restore Default Startup Configuration of Windows Media Center Receiver Service
Before you begin doing this, make sure that all the services on which Windows Media Center Receiver Service depends are configured by default and function properly. See the list of dependencies above.1. Run the Command Prompt as an administrator.
2. Copy the command below, paste it into the command window and press ENTER:
sc config ehRecvr start= demand
3. Close the command window and restart the computer.
The ehRecvr service is using the ehRecvr.exe file that is located in the C:\Windows\ehome directory. If the file is removed or corrupted, read this article to restore its original version from Windows 7 installation media.
