Arc Service Defaults in Windows 7

Adaptec RAID Storport Driver by Adaptec, Inc..

Default Settings

Startup type:Manual
Display name:Arc
Service name:arc
Service type:kernel
Error control:normal
Group:SCSI Miniport
Registry key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\arc

Default Behavior

Arc is a kernel device driver. In Windows 7 it won't be started if the user doesn't start it. If Arc fails to start, Windows 7 attempts to write the failure details into Event Log. Then Windows 7 startup should proceed and the user should be notified that the arc service is not running because of the error.

Restore Default Startup Configuration for Arc

1. Run the Command Prompt as an administrator.

2. Copy the command below, paste it into the command window and press ENTER:

sc config arc start= demand

3. Close the command window and restart the computer.

The arc service is using the arc.sys file that is located in the %WinDir%\system32\DRIVERS folder. If the file is changed, damaged or deleted, you can restore its original version from Windows 7 installation media.
